Sunday, April 19 — Chybinski Loop
Spring on Squak Mountain always feels like the world is reawakening. The Chybinski Loop is a trail that rises gradually into deep forest before opening into the high ridgeline toward Debbie’s View, one of the most beloved lookouts in the Issaquah Alps. When the clouds lift and the sun hits the valley, the whole world feels spacious.
Squak holds stories — old farms, early cabins, the ghost echoes of a zoo that once stood on its slopes, and generations of hikers who have used these woods as their weekly reset. It is one of those mountains that has shaped the emotional geography of the Eastside: a place to breathe again.
We’ll hike 7.7 miles with about 2,100 feet of gain — a steady climb, but with switchbacks and rhythm that make it feel welcoming rather than punishing. The forest is lush this time of year, full of new ferns and wet stone, and that unmistakable scent of cedar waking after rain.
Bring layers you can adjust — the ridge can be breezy in April.
Waterproof shoes recommended. And if the sun does break through… let’s just say Debbie’s View sometimes delivers sudden silence, the good kind.
Afterward, we’ll gather at Malarky’s Sports Grill in Issaquah — warm food, cold drinks, and easy conversation to close our Sunday circle.
